Overview

Sprout is a collaborative mobile application built to empower communities with limited access to fresh food. Our mission centers on education, accessibility, and local action—giving users the tools to grow, find, and prepare food within their own neighborhoods. The platform integrates community-sourced data, recipe sharing based on locally available ingredients, and location-based garden discovery to create a network of mutual support. My role focused on enhancing the user experience through the design of a recipe discovery system, a geo-based garden finder, and a meal planning hub that allows users to save recipes, organize meals, and receive AI-driven suggestions. Together, these features transform Sprout from a resource into a daily tool for sustainable, informed food choices.

Problem: Food Accessibility and Price

The Challenge:

Many urban, low-income communities face barriers to accessing fresh, affordable food, including:
High food costs: Healthy meals are often priced out of reach.

Lack of time:

Many people don’t have time to cook, grow their own food, or create meal plans

Limited access:

No nearby grocery stores or community gardens.

People want to grow food but don’t own land.

My Role

Different tasks were distributed among team members. My role was to create a recipe discovery page, find gardens near me, and a meal planning hub! Here, you can browse an array of recipes, save your favorites, and easily craft a customized meal plan. If you need support, our AI is ready to assist you in adding meals and providing personalized suggestions, ensuring a delightful and stress-free cooking experience.
